Welcome to the Stark Class of 1962 Blog!

Reunion set for October 12-13, 2012 at the Sunset Grove Country Club!

How to use this blog...

1... As a "READER" of our blog you can come here, check the posts and pictures, you don't need to log-in or join to do this.

Or 2... on the right side under "followers" you can click "Join this site" and sign in clicking Google and use any email account to become a "MEMBER". (you don't need a Google account), and you can add comments to the postings. You'll see several of us have already done this. You can also add a picture, personal information, etc. to your profile.

3... As a member you can post blogs and add pictures, as some of us have done. A member who wants to post blogs as an "AUTHOR OR CONTRIBUTOR" needs to email Larry B bryantlar2@hotmail.com for an invitation. He'll send this to you and when confirmed, you will be listed as a contributor.

Plans for this reunion and the 50th anniversary of our graduation in 2012 are well underway. August 11th a planning meeting was held in Orange at Mary's house with Anita, Bobby, Gene, Anthony, Mary B, Delores C, Linda P, Judy R, Sally, Mary H, and Judy J. The Country Club has now been reserved for Oct 12 and 13th, 2012. Sally will be working on the program, Nancy T will be the MC, Judy J will be working on the reunion booklets, and Mary H will be developing a slide show. Other fun surprises are being kicked around! Friday night will be an informal visit with snacks and drinks. Saturday will be a full dinner with music and a short program... lots of time to get together! Most of you have recently been contacted to verify your email, phone, address, etc. Watch this blog and your emails for upcoming announcements so we can easily keep you informed as the plans progress. We still have some "missing" classmates, those that have not typically joined us at reunions. You know who they are! Let's encourage them to attend the 50th reunion!

So, lets go! At the upper right corner of the blog "sign in" link, you can sigh in using your email name and password and you'll be able to join and post new articles, pictures or even movies. You will have the ability to remove or edit your own posts, but not those of others. Please keep your comments and posts in good taste, and refrain from including any advertisements or other commercial items. Also, don't publish personal details of yours or others which might be used by hackers to steal one's ID. This isn't as difficult as it sounds but if you have problems, email Mary mlobb@gt.rr.com or Larry for help. The idea of course is to stimulate interest over the next year as we approach Oct 12-13, 2012 and our 50th reunion. Let's have fun with stories, pictures and comments about Orange, ourselves, friends and families! Some great pictures have already been posted, can you identify your classmates?

(If you don't receive the invitation, there is a chance you have your spam filters set too tight. The email will come from no-reply@google.com, so make sure emails from this address are allowed by your email program.)

Another image which came to me from Diana, who I believe got it from Judy. It is Jones School, Mrs. Peacock. If you can add anything to this, please comment.
This is a 2nd grade class photo from Curtis school. If you know some of these kiddos, please comment.

This came to me from Diana, who got it from Judy. Apparently, it was from some spring program at Curtis School, date unknown. If you know details of this, please comment.

This is a photo from my 1st grade class, with Mrs. Mangum teacher. I am in first row, far left. Caption says Room 10, 1950-1951, Anderson School. Who else can you identify?

This photo was from my kindergarden class at Curtis School, 1950. I am first on left-hand side, next to Denise H. (thanks diana)

Anderson 3rd grade class, room 27, 1953

so, recently, i got an email from diana p, who now resides in california, asking if i can remember a play that we participated in from our 3rd grade class at anderson. actually, no, i didn't. however, she did, and she remembered the name of the play and everything! it was rip van winkle. further, she remembered the name and at least some of the words to a song she says that both she and i sang! to this day she knows how to sing it. she also remembered the parts she and i played in this play. wow, i can barely remember going to school that year. anyway, she asked if i had a class photo from that year, and after rummaging around in storage, i was able to find the photo. i have to give credit to my mother for organizing the photos, and keeping them in a way that it was easily located. i share the photo here, and invite other readers to look at it, and see if you can identify yourself, or others who are in it. make a comment if you recognize somebody. (mike c--aka mj) btw, i am 2nd from left in first standing row.

Kerry P McPherson 6/8/1943-8/13/2011

I attended the memorial service for Kerry this afternoon... It was the best ever, perfect for our friend Kerry! It was held here at the XJet Centennial Airport hanger. There were 200 seated and 100 more standing and began with an exciting flyby of 4 planes one breaking away to the heavens! Kerry's younger sister (by 14 years) the Reverend Marianne G McPherson gave opening comments and a prayer followed by the Navy Hymm. A long time friend, co worker and Marine, David Parvin did the Eulogy with good funny stories of Kerry and family. A bag piper played Scotland the Brave and son Tyler led family, friends and associates with sharing. It ended with a Marine Honor Guard presenting the flag and the piper playing Amazing Grace and the Marine Corps Hymm. Following a final flyover by a vintage WWII fighter circling and flying West into the sunset, food was served with a wee dram of Glenlivet for all... a sad but perfect celebration for our friend and classmate Kerry Patrick McPherson! ...Larry

I was asked by Sally Ragland Townsend to create the blog so that we could communicate with all of the class easily and share things of interest, including text and photos. I have asked Larry Bryant to be the blogmaster (administrator), and he has agreed to help take on the duties of looking over the blog to make sure all the posts are done in good taste, and adding his own thoughts to make it more informative and interesting. Sounds like we need another volunteer to help do this as well. Is anybody else interested? Mike Callahan (mj)
